What you may do with all this
Quite a lot. The writing and drawings are yours to quote, teach from and build on, as long as you say where they came from.
Free, and staying free
Reading this library costs nothing and will keep costing nothing. There is no paywall, no trial, and no card. An account is only ever needed for your own saved patterns, never to read.
By using the site you accept what is on this page. If you do not, the honest answer is simply not to use it.
The writing and the drawings
The pattern writing on this site - the problems, forces, anatomy, risks and accessibility notes - and the hand-drawn illustrations are published under CC BY 4.0. That means you may:
- Quote them in a class, a deck, an article or a design review.
- Change them, build on them, and translate them.
- Use them at work, including commercially.
The 1 condition is credit: name UXPatterns.ai and link back to the page you took it from. If you changed something, say so, so nobody mistakes your edit for the original.
Product screenshots and trade marks
The CC BY licence covers the writing and the drawings only. Product screenshots belong to the companies that made those products and are shown here to teach, not to endorse or criticise. Product names and logos belong to their owners.
If a screenshot is yours and you want it gone, it goes - no argument needed. The takedown page explains how to ask.
This library is unfinished
It is being written in the open. Many patterns are named but not written yet, and their pages say so rather than pretending otherwise. Counts on this site are calculated from the patterns themselves, so they stay true as the work goes on.
What is written is a designer’s careful reading of the field, not a standard and not professional advice. It can be incomplete, out of date, or wrong for your situation. Test your own designs with your own users before shipping them, and check accessibility notes against the current WCAG guidance rather than trusting this site alone.
The site is offered as it is, with no guarantee that it is correct, always available, or fit for any particular purpose. Decisions you make from it are yours, and so is the responsibility for them.
Your account
Use your own Google account, and keep it to 1 per person. Do not use the site to break the law, to attack it, or to scrape it in a way that degrades it for other people - the whole library is available as plain text at llms.txt, which is the polite way for a tool to read it.
An account may be closed if it is used that way. You can have your own account deleted whenever you like, as the privacy page explains.
Changes, and the law
The date at the top is the date this page last changed. Pages, patterns and features come and go while the library is being built; anything that changes what you may do with the content will be dated here.
This site is made and run by Abhi Chatterjee in Hyderabad, India, and Indian law applies.
